Obey laws or work to change laws. Some laws are probably unjust. In a democracy, one can work to change laws if they are unjust. Drug laws or possibly unjust. Some psychiatric laws are probably unjust. So drug laws and psychiatric laws should probably be changed. Civil commitment and involuntary psychiatric treatment are wrong and unjust. The insanity defense is unjust.
Nations that are not democratic should become more democratic. Nations that are not free should become more free. Both liberty and personal responsibility should be emphasized as societal values.
Nations that oppress their citizens should not be supported monetarily, economically, militarily, or really in hardly any other ways it seems. Tyrannical leaders should be removed from power it seems. It seems that tyrannical leaders do much harm to the humans and cultures of Earth.
And if there are just laws they should be followed. Laws exist to create order and uniform patterns of behavior. Without laws it seems that violence and brute force might prevail, and even more injustice would occur. Sometimes not obeying laws might seem like to make life easier but ultimately is a poor choice to not obey just laws. Breaking laws is not a worthwhile shortcut and society.
There are many ways one can work to change unjust laws. One can call or write one’s governmental representatives. One can create a petition. One could go protest somewhere nonviolently. There are many ways try and change unjust laws in free and democratic societies.
It is unfortunate that some unjust laws are created. It seems that often these will have negative consequences for society as a whole. So hopefully democracies will learn from their mistakes and not repeatedly create unjust laws that citizens are forced to follow.
Hopefully over time societies will become more just and free. Hopefully citizens in democratic societies will obey laws and collaboratively work to change unjust laws. And hopefully more nations will become democratic and free, and emphasize both freedom and personal responsibility as values.
