Health reform is giong through the senate….
Seems like… what are we doing as America? We want our people to be happy and healthy… and there are conflicting ways to have that happen. People think long term and short term… what is sustainable long term… and what is sustainable short term?

Where would we like to see ourselves in 50 years? Why? Anyone read any good/interesting books lately? Umm…. politics. President… Petraeus… McChrystal… Open source….
Thomas Szasz is a theorist and psychiatrist. That is my understanding.
He states the psychiatry is the _medicalization_ of social, moral, and political problems, if my memory does not betray me.
He does not deny that personal distress is something that people should deal with and should be dealt with. However, distress is caused by problems of living. That is, there are usually causes to distress that are real. These causes should be taken care of. That is what I remember.

OLPC stands for “One Laptop Per Child”.
The theory is, that if we give every child in the world a laptop that is connected to the Internet, and that that laptop is loaded with software to help that child learn, and the laptop is rugged…. that that can and likely could change the world in many positive ways.
Part of the theory is that the laptop will be a light source. The laptop is is also inexpensive. It is also rechargeable via an on board electric generator (something like that, really), so that no grid power system is needed.
How does all that sound? Some argue that the OLPC project has already change the laptop market… that the OLPC project has inspired the whole new class of laptops called “netbooks”.
Say anything…
That way… we will know it works…
We will know that there are some individuals out there that read this.
This can be like an open conversation thread… start it however you would like to… you can’t do it wrong!
What is the function of time?
Will there be a time when everyone is happy?
What will that look like? What would that look like? How could that be possible?
What systemic factors would have to change?
So what would it take to eliminate poverty, starvation, malnutrition, and war?
I don’t know.
